El Miro Viewpoint
Without a doubt one of the best places to watch the sun go down is from El Miro Viewpoint! The viewpoint is actually an abandoned hotel that was never finished set in the mountain overlooking all of downtown Jaco. Visitors can walk or take a horse to the top to admire the spectacular views. We recommend starting the walk about an hour before sunset. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the viewpoint, giving you time to rest and watch the sun go down! Don’t forget your camera! Over the years the white concrete structure has made for a great canvas for local artists, painting murals and inspirational quotes throughout the viewpoint. It makes for a great photo-op!
Pro Tip: About 10 minutes into the walk, there is a small viewpoint. Don’t stop there! Keep going until you reach the larger viewpoint to get the best view! We also recommend bringing a flashlight or light on your phone for the way back, as it can get a little dark by the time you reach the bottom walking down.
Villa Caletas Amphitheater
For an amazing sunset happy hour, head to Villa Caletas. Located high up in the lush tropical jungles of Costa Rica, the hotel has a breathtaking amphitheater, overlooking the ocean. It is by far one of the most incredible places to watch the sunset in all of Costa Rica. They have a fine dining restaurant and bar so you can enjoy a cocktail or a bite to eat while you enjoy the sunset.
Pro Tip: It’s recommended to make a reservation between the months of December and April. Ask our concierge team to assist you.
The Beach
Tried and true! Some say for the best sunset vantage point in Jaco, there is only one place to head - the beach! You won’t find a bad view across the 2.5 mile stretch of sandy beach running alongside downtown Jaco. An ocean view mixed with cliff edges and junglescape make it the perfect backdrop to catch one of the most magnificent sunsets you will ever see in your life! If sipping on a cocktail is on your list, you will find many bars and restaurants right on the beach that offer great views!
From your Surfboard
If you are planning to surf during your vacation, we definitely recommend that you paddle out for a sunset session. There is nothing more magical and peaceful than finishing the day, staring off into the horizon until you catch that very last glimpse of daylight reflecting against the shimmering Pacific Ocean. If you’re lucky, you may even get a guest visit from a friendly dolphin or two.
