A family vacation in Los Sueños Resort, Costa Rica during Spring Break offers countless things to do and see.
These are our 5 favorites for family fun and togetherness.
Canopy Tour
From $60 per person, minimum age 8 years; weight restrictions 90 – 300 pounds. Monkeys, sloths, macaws and other species tend to hangout in the treetops, making a canopy tour the best way to catch a glimpse. Bilingual guides escort visitors from platform to platform as they zipline through the canopy for a unique perspective of the rainforest. Tour includes safety briefing and instruction, equipment and usually transportation to and from Los Sueños. At least one tour operator offers a tramline option for the very young or less adventurous. Tour duration is two hours.
Horseback Riding
From $70 per person, ask about age restrictions. Bilingual guides lead riders on a 3-hour ride through the rainforest, pointing out the flora and fauna along the way. There are several different operators in the Jacó area, including one based at Los Sueños. Almost all are on private property, but a few take riders along the beach. At Los Sueños, the ride is through the resort’s private preserve. Many include stops at waterfalls for swimming or can be combined with other activities, such as ziplining or an ATV tour. Snacks, helmets, horses, and transportation are included.
ATV Tour
The cost varies by duration and single/double ATV, from $70 per person single rider (two hours), includes transportation, equipment, safety briefing, bilingual guide, snacks and water. Again, there are many tour operators in the area, nearly all on private property. Tours usually include creek/river crossings, as well as panoramic views and up-close looks at the wildlife and a stop at the beach or local waterfalls for a swim.
Catamaran cruise to Isla Tortuga
Cruising time is 45 minutes from the dock at Los Sueños Marina. Full-day tour includes a choice of activities (additional rental fees may apply): snorkeling, paddle boards, kayaking, wave runners or “banana” boats or soak up the rays on the white sand beach. Muffins, fruit and coffee are served outbound, with lunch on the island.
Savegre River Whitewater Rafting
The price varies according to tour options and duration, from $95 per person, minimum age 6 – 8 years. Rafting through the rainforest gives visitors a different view of the surrounding jungle. About an hour from Los Sueños, the Savegre boasts Class II-III rapids, depending on the season. Bilingual guides, equipment, lunch/snacks and safety instructions are included; transportation is also included.
