There’s no better place for a family reunion than Costa Rica. The weather is great, the scenery is beautiful, and there’s something for everyone to do. Plus, it’s a chance for family members to truly get away from it all. However, if you want to hold your reunion in Costa Rica, it’s important to plan ahead. Here are some tips for planning the perfect trip: Create a guest list. To truly know how to plan for your trip, you need to know how many people will be able to make it. You don’t have to have a specific head count at first, but a rough estimate is helpful in order to know what size venue you need, and what type of accommodations.
Consider your group demographics. Does your group include a lot of children, or is it composed of mainly adults? Do you have a lot of adventurers in your family, are you more partial to partying, or relaxing on the beach? If your group is really diverse, you can send out a quick poll to find out what everyone would like to get out of the trip. You don’t have to please everyone, but planning activities is easier if you know what everyone would prefer to do.
Research activities. It’s important to thoroughly research available activities so that you can create a solid itinerary. Some activities are good for larger groups, while some are best for smaller groups. Some require you to make deposits ahead of time. Some are only available on certain days and times, or during a certain season; some may not be suitable for young children or the elderly; and some may be too taste-specific for everyone to enjoy. It’s a good idea to build some large-group activities that everyone will likely enjoy into your itinerary – a celebration on the beach, a tour of a national park, or a catered family meal, for example – and then create some options for small groups or individuals. When you plan and book in advance, the HRG Concierge Team can help you select the perfect activities for everyone.
Research accommodations. Accommodations for large groups are not as readily available as those for smaller groups. It is important to find and book a property well in advance so that you can be sure that you have plenty of space for all. Be sure to ask about amenities — your family members will appreciate having access to spas, golf courses, pools and a variety of dining options. You may also want to find a property with access to a private club or a banquet area for large get-togethers.
Scope out restaurant venues. If you plan to do a family dinner on the town, make sure to research venues to ensure that they are large enough to accommodate your party, and that they take reservations. Your Concierge Team can give you great suggestions, and help you with booking well in advance, as well as tell you about any additional fees, special menu options, or large group policies they may have.
